Jane Manchun Wong has fun with examining the code within applications looking for hidden new features, security vulnerabilities, and references to new upcoming products. Recently, she took to Twitter to reveal some possible upcoming new features to Spotify.
Spotify for two? Premium Duo could be the answer
Spotify is testing out a new premium plan that offers two subscriptions over the six that are currently included with the Premium for Family plan. Called Premium Duo, it appears that plan has its sight …
Free google speaker with spotify premium. This isn’t the first time Wong has uncovered new app features simply by poring through publically available code. She’s found hidden features in apps from Instagram, Facebook, and Google-branded apps, all of which were eventually released. You can read all about her methods — and how she does this without any interest in financial gain — over at The Next Web.
The new Spotify features Wong found were in the Android app. The first thing she discovered is a sleep timer feature, which would allow a user to play a track or playlist for a certain amount of time and then automatically stop. This is helpful for those who like to listen to music while falling asleep.
Spotify added a Sleep Timer to its Android app earlier this year, and this week, it's making the feature available for Spotify users on iPhone and iPad. Keep reading to learn how to use the Sleep. What’s more if things begin to feel a little repetitive you can listen to your own playlist on a third party app (such a Spotify) whilst still using the Freya app to keep track of your surges and coach you through each one. You can switch between the 4-8 breathing pattern and the more manageable 3-6.

Wong also found a feature related to connecting with friends on Spotify. You’ll be able to use a custom scannable code that will easily allow you to share songs with people you know. Simply have your friend scan your code — which looks like a sound wave rather than a QR code — in the “Connect to a device” section of the app:

The final new feature Wong found allows for easy Spotify integration with various navigation apps, including Waze and Google Maps: Download spotify playlist review.

We don’t have any idea if or when these features will actually land on the Spotify Android app. However, Wong usually discovers features a few months before they launch, so it might be a while before we see all these. Of course, there’s also the possibility that they won’t land at all.

Chris Hawthorne just sent me a note:
Now showing total time + hours and minutes beyond one hour!
Hi John! Have you heard the news? Apparently the Spotify timer is back. I have yet to receive the update but many instructors are already enjoying it!

It's about time ?
If you joined Spotify recently, you've had to live without any playlist timer. A major inconvenience when you want an accurate listing of total time.

Those of us joined a bit earlier enjoyed the playlist timer and were pretty frustrated when they removed it for no understandable reason. It wasn't perfect. A playlist of over 60 minutes displayed: Over One Hour, which wasn't much help when you were constructing a 90 minute endurance ride. I was creating two separate playlists; Part 1 & Part 2 so I could see the time, then combined them before class.
This new Spotify playlist timer showing both hours and minutes is a very welcome update.
To control the load on their servers, Spotify rolls out update notifications sequentially. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they update their premium users first. If you're not seeing the new timer, I would first try closing Spotify if it's sitting open for a while. If that doesn't help you'll need to sit tight and wait until you see the update notification that will show on the top of Spotify page.
